HARRIS, Katie L. age 84, met her Master face to face on December 12th, in Loveland, Ohio. She was born in Pine Level, Alabama, to Willie C. and Annie (Whooten) Cogburn on June 17, 1931. Katie and family moved to Akron, Ohio when she was a teenager, making her home in Akron for more than 50 years until moving to Loveland, Ohio with her eldest son nine years ago.
While in Akron, Katie met and married the love of her life, Alfred E. Harris, and to that union four children were born. She was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church, where she was a very active member under Rev. Stanley Linton, and later, St. John C.M.E. Church under Rev. Arthur Greene. When she moved to Loveland, she became a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Lockland, Ohio, until her passing.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Robin and Terrence; grandchild, Christopher; sister, Sara, and brother, George (Verlyne) Cogburn. She is survived by her beloved children, Anthony (Adelaide) of Loveland, Ohio, and Bettina (Thomas) Addie of Mesa, Arizona; Daughter-in-law, Ruth Harris; grandchildren, Wisseh (Abena) Harris, Cincinnati, Ohio; Kaila (Jason) Heath, Holly Springs, North Carolina; Doyen Harris, Fredericksburg, Virginia; Justin, Maya, and Zachary Addie, Mesa, Arizona; Marcus and Antoinette Harris, Akron, Ohio; 10 great grandchildren; siblings, Robert Cogburn, Akron, Ohio; Bertha Lee (Ray) Loyde, Montgomery, Alabama, and Willie Mae (Michael) McDuffy, Dallas, Texas; and a host of loving and special nieces, nephews, her Bethel church family and long-time friends, especially Laverne (Wilburn) Turner and Sister Elizabeth Sampson in Akron, Ohio.
Homegoing services will be held on Tuesday, December 22nd, at 12 noon, with viewing at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 700 Mulberry Street, Lockland, Ohio 45215, Reverend Robert Dye officiating, and Reverend Jo Ann Harris, eulogizing.
