Lena Mae Lowe, lovingly known as "Ma-ma-ma" to her family, was born in Ethelsville, Alabama on September 17, 1927. She was the only child of Savada E. (Bridges) Wilbron and Floyd White, who have both preceded her in death.
Lena received her education in Alabama public schools. At the age of 14 she married Johnny Goins. Later, as a young adult, she moved to Cincinnati, where she did domestic work before becoming a nurse's aide at the Good Samaritan Hospital. For the last several years of her employment at Good Samaritan she worked in the nursery, where she was known as the "loving grandma". She retired from the hospital after 27 years of service.
Lena loved the Lord and accepted Christ at a very early age. She was a faithful member at New Jerusalem Baptist Church and Revelation Baptist Church before joining the New Christian Life Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Flave E. Hunter. She served as a Deaconess and missionary at New Christian Life until her health would no longer allow.
A devoted wife, Lena joined the late John W. Lowe in holy matrimony on November 9, 1985. They remained inseparable until his death in 2008.
To celebrate her life and cherish her memory, Lena leaves two daughters, Martina C. Harmon, Savada E. Howard; five grandchildren, Darrell'e R. Cooley, Darrell L. Salter Jr., Desiree D. Carpenter, LaToya C. Porter, Peyton A. O'Neal; thirteen great-grandchildren, Tiara R. Salter, Lena M. Salter, Alonzo J. Salter, Destini D. Carpenter, Jaylah D. Howard, Aaliyah A. Salter, Denae L.
