Leroy "Pete" Byrd was born January 16 1935 to the union of the late John L. and Dollie (Riggs) Byrd in Portal, Georgia. He departed this life on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Clovernook Healthcare Pavilion.
Pete attended Willow Hill Elementary School in Portal Georgia. In 1958 he relocated to Dayton, Ohio and began working for St. John Bus Company. He became a truck driver and spent many years working for various companies in that capacity.
After moving to Dayton, Ohio he met and married Margaret Smith and to this union four children were born. Pete later married Faye M. Wynn and to this union one child was born.
A jack of all trades Pete would often be called upon by family and friends assist in a array of areas including home/auto repair, gardening to name a few. Pete was also a master griller with a talent in preparing BBQ, he could always be found at the grill during family gatherings.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Carrie Mae Mosley and a brother, Doy "Bill" Byrd. Left to cherish Pete's loving memories are three daughters, Jean (Jeffrey Catron), Villarica, GA, Crissie E. (Derrick) Armstrong, Dayton, OH and Charlene E Gamble, Rex, GA; three sons, Charles E Byrd, Baltimore, MD, Christopher E. Byrd, Columbus, OH and Jayson M. Byrd, Cincinnati, OH; two sisters, Erlene (James) Lee and Almarine (Ernest) Williams, Cincinnati, OH; four brothers, John W. Byrd, James A. Byrd, Chester, PA, Willie Deroy Byrd, Live Oak, FL and Roscoe (Joyce) Byrd, Cincinnati, Ohio, a sister-in-law, Beatrice Byrd, Metter, GA, a host of nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.
