JOHNSON, Lewis, age 96, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2014. He was born on April 19, 1918, in Opelika (Lee County) Alabama to John Wesley and Cora L. (Darby) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Katie Johnson, his wife Hattie Stephens-Johnson; and his sisters Sarah Lee Baker, Hattie Cunningham and Jessie Mae Johnson.
Lewis is survived by his siblings Benjamin Johnson, Della Bryant, Irene Shealey, Mary Ridgeway, Narciss Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; great-great-great nieces and nephews; his Goddaughter Carlisha Martin; and a host of other family members and friends.
Mr. Johnson belonged to Bethel Number Two Church in Alabama. Since 1947, he was a faithful member of the Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of the Male Chorus at New Hope. He was a member of Local 265 Retiree Club and former President of their Male Chorus. He was in the Local 265 for 64 years as a laborer. Lewis Johnson loved to cook and feed everyone that came by to visit. He loved his gardening after learning how in Alabama. He also loved to grow and give away what he grew to whoever wanted it. Lewis also loved his lawn work and made it look so professional. His passion was to "Sing for his Master" and always was serving the Lord and the people whether it was family, friend or someone he was meeting as an acquaintance. He was a mentor for old and young alike. We will all miss Lewis Johnson, Uncle Lewis, Brother Lewis, and even sometimes Dad Lewis to some family members.
