Lillie Mae Ushery

The Obituary – a 103 year Journey…..

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 2 Timothy 4:7

Lillie Mae Jenkins-Ushery was born on March 10, 1908 in Greene County, GA to the late John and Martha Jenkins, the fifth of six children. She peacefully departed this life at age 103 on October 29, 2011.

On December 25, 1925, she married Jake Ushery and from that union was born nine children: Doris, Jake, Lizzie, James, Willie, Eugene, Shirley, Ruby and Margaret. In addition, she raised three of her grandchildren, Willie James, Lavell, and Earl.

Sister Ushery gave her life to Christ at an early age at Springfield Baptist Church in Crawfordville, GA. After moving to Cincinnati, OH, she maintained her faith and under the leadership of her beloved brother-in-law, the late Rev Clarence Adkins she became a member of Golden Leaf Baptist Church. She served faithfully as a deaconess and attended services regularly until her health failed. At this time she was awarded the status of Deaconess Emeritus. She carried the distinction of being the oldest member of Golden Leaf Baptist Church. This honor, along with a beautiful family and church celebration, White House and City Council birthday greetings, were cherished memories of her 100th birthday celebration.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Jake; three sons, Jake, Jr., Willie Florence and Eugene; one daughter-in-law, Lurlean; one son-in-law, Clarence Alexander and ten grandchildren.

Sister Ushery leaves to cherish her memory one son, James Ushery (Ola Mae) of Atlanta, GA; five daughters, Doris Alexander of Detroit, MI, Lizzie B. Askew (Johnny) of Crawfordville, GA, Shirley White (Robert) of Cincinnati, OH, Ruby Ushery of Atlanta, GA and Margaret Dunston (Robert) of Washington, DC; two daughter-in-laws, Ann Ushery of Cincinnati, OH and Bell Ushery of Atlanta, GA; 40 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren; a special nephew, William Adkins and two special nieces, Patricia Adkins and Anzora Adkins, and other nieces, nephews and friends.
