Luis Antonio Santiago - Aponte

April 20, 1951 — July 16, 2018

Santiago-Aponte, Luis "Louie" Antonio age 67, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. He was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico, on April 20, 1951. He was the son of Bienvenido and Pasquala Santiago (nee Aponte - Alvarado).

Louie was affectionately known as "Computer, Gangsta Lou, Uncle Lou, Uncle Fester, Grandpa and Dad." He worked for Gallo Auto Service, All Erection and Crane, and General Motors. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elk's Lodge in Arizona, and a life-long member of the YMCA. Louie enjoyed his life with family and friends, fishing, traveling and of course, "turning wrenches," passionately fixing up cars and teaching others the trade just for fun.

Louie grew up an Army Brat/Boy Scout traveling from Puerto Rico to many of the United States at different Forts. With many treasured memories in Arizona, he decided to settle in Cincinnati, Ohio, enjoying his final days with his children, living right next door to his beloved frenemy/ex-wife/mother of his children, Catherine Oquendo. In the last few years of his life he became very religious and devoted to his Catholic faith but, he never lost his humor. He'd always leave you with a smirk or smile for it was his nature to make you belly laugh at any opportunity. Louie's thoughtful, quick and witty responses will remain part of his legacy. (Can you remember them all? Write them down below.)

He was preceded in death by his father, Bienvenido Santiago - Martinez; mother, Pasquala Santiago; his sisters, Sylvia Estella Santiago and Alma Lydia Santiago. Louie is survived by his beloved children, Catherine (Juan Carlos Caballero Castro) Santiago, Luis Antonio Santiago, II, Jacqueline Lee Santiago and Victoria Rachel (Donald) Ammann; his sisters, Maria Del Carmen (Rafael) Cartagena, Hilda Esther (Carlos) DeJesus and Teresa (Ira) Owens; his brother, Jose Orlando Santiago; and his grandchildren, Carl John (CJ), Carmen, Nicholas, Abigail, Alia, Isaac, Alexander, Luis Antonio (III), Jasmin, and Aubrey, along with a host of other family members and friends.

Friends will be received at Newcomer Funeral Home - West Side Chapel, 3300 Parkcrest Lane, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Saturday, July 21, 2018 and on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 3720 Saint Martins Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211. Burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph New Cemetery.

Louie's family would like to thank Hospice of Cincinnati and Barrett Cancer Center for their kindness and special care. The family would also like to recognize and thank their family friend who helped care for Louie during his battle with cancer, Tonya Hutchison, who Louie affectionately named "Wonder Woman!"
