Margaret Zentmeyer

August 20, 1935 — December 31, 2021

Margaret "Margie" Zentmeyer, age 86, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 20, 1935 to Edward and Margaret Menges (nee Klein).

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James W Zentmeyer and her siblings and in-laws: George (Sue) and Gene (Eleanor) Menges, Patsy (Ed) Geyer, Carl "Bobby" Klein and baby Leonard Menges.

She is loving mother of Jim (Robin) Zentmeyer, Betsy (Tony Doyle) Zentmeyer, Suzy (Brian Waller) Hacker, Sandy (Mark) Angel and Tom (Bridget) Zentmeyer.

Margie is the proud grandma of Brooke, Grant, Cate, Alex, Grace, Zack (Maria), Zoey, Nate, Penny, Fia, Maggie, Brennan and Ryan and the aunt of beloved many nieces and nephews.

Margie loved the Cincinnati Reds and was a heartfelt fan her whole life. She enjoyed being a member of the Rosie Reds in her younger days and went on many trips to root for her team. It was on one such trip to Pittsburgh that she met her future husband, Jim, who was a sportswriter traveling to report on the game. We have long been told that Jim's first words to Margie were, "Hey good lookin,' what ya got cookin'?"

Margie was a true hometown girl and loved all that Cincinnati had to offer, particularly local cuisine like Graeter's, LaRosa's, Skyline, and Wild Mike's. She was proud to have grown up on the West Side and to have attended St. Catherine's grade school and Mother of Mercy High School. Before she was married she worked at P&G, which was another achievement of which she was proud.

Margie loved being a wife and mom and raising five kids was her proudest accomplishment. She and Jim worked hard and scrimped and saved so they could put all their kids through parochial school; they both agreed that having five college graduates was a testament to their efforts.

When each of Margie's kids went on to have their own families, Margie delighted in every moment of watching her 13 grandkids grow up. She always found joy being with her family, including her siblings and their families, Jim's family, and many cousins, not to mention the decades of friendship with Margie's three best girlfriends and their husbands who met for 'club' at each other's homes regularly for the better part of 50 years.

Margie also loved animals and was thankful to have beloved pets throughout her life. She even grew to love her 'porch possums' who would come and eat the cat food she left out for the stray cats that visited every night.
