Obituary

Margie (Montre) Reid was born in Eatonton, Georgia on March 17, 1911 to John Thomas and Maggie Presley Reid. She was the third eldest child out of nine siblings which consisted of one brother (John) and seven sisters (Mozelle, Eva, Bertha, Dollie, Lucile, Fannie and Alice) and one half-brother (Ulysses).

Margie attended elementary schools in Eatonton and was fortunate to complete the sixth grade. When she was old enough to work, she started working as a nanny and a housekeeper. Margie always took great pride in her work. The families that hired her considered her to be a trusted and valuable companion. Anyone who knew Margie knows that she had a very supportive, caring and nurturing disposition which she displayed wherever she worked. Her work allowed her to travel with some of her employers when they would travel on business or for vacations. She often reminisced about vacations in Florida and "sailing boats on the water".

In her 30's, she traveled to Ohio to visit her oldest sister, Mozelle, and decided to stay in Cincinnati. At that time, she started working with Mozelle, who operated a restaurant. Eventually, her parents and other sisters relocated to Cincinnati and it became a very loving and cheerful family atmosphere that Margie enjoyed. She continued to work in Cincinnati, performing a variety of jobs for various employers and ultimately retired at the age of 67.

After arriving in Cincinnati, Margie met the love of her life, Robert Lee Austin. Margie enjoyed his company until his passing in 1995. From their relationship, she has one son, Phillip. Margie loved her eldest sister, Mozelle, and chose to reside with her from the time she relocated from Georgia to Ohio. They shared a very nurturing, supportive, and festive household because there were sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, and cousins always at their home for a visit – they were always close by.

Margie was an outstanding cook and she loved to cook for hire, family and friends. She cared for her sister, Mozelle, and her husband in their later years. She did so with a gracious and generous spirit. She truly loved her sisters and always enjoyed their company and family time together. She also had a special love for her nieces and nephews.

Margie was always active and involved in the church community starting early on in Eatonton, Georgia. She always was a very dedicated and faithful churchgoer and was a life-long member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Cincinnati. She read the Bible daily until 2009 and always advocated love of God and peace over hatred and violence.

In 1995 Margie had to leave Cincinnati and relocate to Dayton, Ohio with her son, Phillip, and grandson, Phillip II, where she resided until October 2009. Then she took up residence at Mercy Siena Retirement Community where she resided until her death. She received outstanding care and attention from the Mercy Siena staff, and was grateful for all of you-her family, friends and care-givers and most thankful for the love, devotion and service she was provided.
