January of this year, Marty received the news that nothing more could be done to treat the cancer and was placed on hospice. She was cared for in her home with the help of Hospice of Cincinnati. The family is ever grateful to the staff there, especially Linda Story, Amy, Sharon, as well as her massage therapist, Donna and hospice artist, Teresa.
Martha Ann (Kaiser) Gibbons passed away peacefully in her home in Cincinnati, Ohio at approximately 3:00 am on Sunday, September 23, 2012 after a five-year struggle with lung cancer. Her beloved spouse of 55 years, Joseph S. Gibbons, remained by her side through it all. She was a homemaker who loved to surround herself with her loving family. Marty enjoyed flower gardening, fishing, swimming, and was a proficient online computer gamer as well.
Martha, known to most as Marty, was born on September 10, 1938 in Xenia, Ohio to Edward and Caroline Kaiser. She was the eldest of 5 girls; Mary Sherman, Nancy Bernesser, Theresa McCabe, and Angela Leisure, all who speak so affectionately of their big sister's generosity and kindness to them throughout their lives. She and Joseph were wed on September 7, 1957 and brought five children into the world; preceded in death by her son, Edward J Gibbons, in 2003, preceded in death by her daughter, Mary A. Quigley, in 2002 (children Kendra, William, and Lindsey), daughter, Loretta Nerswick (husband Edward, children Amber, Nick, Amanda, and John), son, Michael P. Gibbons (wife Doris, children Brandon and Bryan), and daughter, Jennifer L. Gibbons. She also had six great-grandchildren Melanie, Logan, Jenny, Madison, Andrew and Ryan.
Marty touched the lives of so many with her genuine concern and selflessness. She was a most loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Many recount with great joy the many delicious meals she prepared for the family in her home with so much love, and her great sense of humor.
