Marvin Comer was born to the union of Thor Comer and Lois Cooper in Cincinnati, Ohio on February 26, 1933. He was called to rest on February 5, 2022. He was the oldest surviving child of their six children. He accepted the Lord at an early age at the Union Baptist Church. At his passing, Marvin was a member of Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church. Marvin attended Cincinnati Public Schools graduating from Walnut Hills High School in 1951. He then attended Harvard University in Boston, MA, but returned home and completed his degree in Business Administration at the University of Cincinnati. Marvin retired after 30 years from General Electric as a Procurement Manager in 1988. Marvin was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1962.
Marvin was married to the late Anita Wooten and they had one son, Donald Marc Comer. He later married Annease Turner and they were married until her passing in 2020. Marvin loved music and played the trombone and organ. He also had photography as a hobby and had a dark room in his basement. Marvin's greatest passion after his family was playing bridge. Marvin was a fierce competitor in bridge, learning many conventions and playing in many events in the American Bridge Association (ABA) and the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) both locally and nationally. He achieved the level of Life Master (LM) and traveled to various events, such as Spring and Summer Tournaments, until his health issues prevented his participation. Marvin held many positions of leadership in the ABA: Director, President, Secretary, Treasurer and directed in the ACBL. He helped arrange Summer and Spring National Tournaments in Cincinnati and supported various bridge clubs throughout the Midwest Section.
Marvin was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Waters and his brother, Arthur Comer; his wife, Annease Comer; and his son, Donald Marc Comer.
Marvin is survived by his sister, Audrey Newbill; daughter-in-law, Merry Comer; grandsons, Wesley (Kaydian) and Matthew (Abby) Comer and Sandy Christian; granddaughters, Christine Anne and Christine Laurence; great-granddaughter, Brinley Comer; nieces, Tonya Smith and Kallisa Powell; nephew, Mario Powell; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral Ceremony will be 11:00 pm Friday, February 18, 2022 with a visitation from 10:00 am - 11:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Northwest Chapel, 7830 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45231.
