Obituary

Mattie Mae was born to the late James W. and Margaret Lewis in Selma, Alabama. Mattie was a loving wife and mother. She always cared for the children of working parents whether they were family members or neighborhood children. You could always count on them being well cared for and spoiled rotten by the time they were picked up. She was a kind hearted woman; she never had a harsh word for anyone. Mattie was gracious and she had the ability to find good in any situation, no matter what adversities life brought her way.

Mattie has now joined her husband of many years the late Emmitt Barnes, along with her parents and seven of her siblings.

Mattie leaves to cherish her memory three children, Joseph T. Porter, David Barnes, and Darlene Rice; eight siblings Ruby Mitchell, Barbara (Clarence) Ledford, Robert (Marie) Spain of Cincinnati, OH, Susie Gardener of Chicago, IL, Irene (Ocie) Tanniehill, Mary(Jake) Merchant, Para Lee (Jimmy) Edward and Gracie Taylor of Alabaster, AL. She leaves seven grandchildren, Joseph Jr., Latesha, Amanda, Craig, Raymond, Jordan, and Adam, along with nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.
