Melody Hofmann

July 20, 1954 — January 16, 2025

Union, Kentucky

Melody Lynn Palm Hofmann of Union, KY, passed into the next life peacefully at home on January 16, 2025. She was 70 years old.

Melody was born July 20, 1954, to the late Raymond and Audrey Palm in Covington, Kentucky. In 1973 she graduated from Campbell County High School, where she loved playing the flute in the band. At Eastern Kentucky University, she earned an Associate of Arts in Banking in 1976 and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1977. Melody’s most cherished activity in college was being a part of EKU’s Wesley Foundation, a United Methodist Organization where she made many treasured friends.

After college, Melody spent six years serving in the cash management department for Federated Department Stores in downtown Cincinnati. During this time, she earned a Master of Business Administration in Economics at Xavier University. She also was an active member of the National Organization for Women (NOW) during that time. Melody later was employed as a bookkeeper for Colonial Woodcraft, Door to Door, and Metropolitain Transportation. She one time stated that she enjoyed bookkeeping so much that the task would completely engross her.

Melody married the love of her life, Norman Hofmann of Oxford, OH, on July 16, 1983. Their first 12 years were spent in Fairfield, OH, before moving to Columbus, OH, for the next 27 years.

Melody was a devoted wife to Norman for 39 years until he passed away in June 2022.

Melody and Norman were huge animal lovers and enjoyed spoiling four Beagle dogs and three cats during their marriage. Melody once said life wouldn't be complete without a pet. Although she had no other children besides fur babies, she greatly enjoyed being a good aunt and spoiling her nieces and nephews. Her other loves were reading books and collecting Precious Moments figurines.

Melody was considered twice a miracle, first because she was born 10 weeks early, and the second when she received a kidney transplant from her brother, Jim Palm, in 1999. For that she expressed her incredible gratitude to God and her brother for giving her another 23 amazing years. Melody is also an organ donor herself, having contributed her corneas upon passing. She said she was grateful for the chance to be both an organ recipient and an organ donor.

Melody was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her brother, Jim (Beth) Palm of Alexandria, KY; her niece, Jennifer Miller of Burlington, KY; her nephew Anthony (Sarah) Palm, also of Burlington; her great nephew, Raymond Miller; and great nieces Adeline and Eliza Palm. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Meredith Hofmann of Oxford, OH, and Beth Hofmann of Middletown, OH; her nephew, Sargeant Igor Hofmann of Honolulu, HI; and niece Ava (Robin) Hofmann of Buffalo, NY. She is also survived by her precious cat, Muffin, who was her constant companion. Melody also expressed special thanks for all the help given her in the last stages of her life by her two cousins, Brenda (Walt) Sprague-Kagy and Debra Palm.

Melody was an active and proud member of First Presbyterian Church in Grove City, Ohio. Memorial contributions can be made to the church, Lifeline of Ohio, or Shriners Hospital for Children.
