Michael Harry McKee was born on November 19, 1951, the third of five children born to the union of William Austin McKee, Sr. and Mary Alice(McAdams) McKee. His unique entry into this world, being born in Dr. Houston's office on High Street in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, set the theme for an interesting and creative life. Michael attended school in Lawrenceburg, Indiana where his artistic talents were discovered in elementary school. He graduated from High School in 1970 and then attended Al Gable's Art School in Cincinnati, Ohio where he received an Associate of Arts Degree in Graphic Design. After art school, Michael was soon employed by The Cincinnati Enquirer, where he went on to work for 25 years in the Art Department. In 1982, Michael was instrumental in the launch of USA Today , being chosen by Gannett Publishing to travel between Cincinnati and Washington, DC in the months prior to the newspaper's debut. Michael finished his career at Standard Publishing in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he created religious materials and books to encourage at risk youth.
Michael's interests were varied and immense. He was passionate about Genealogy and music of all types. He also loved gardening, fishing, reading, sports, running and was a well seasoned and accomplished nomad, having visited France, England and his beloved Ireland several times, as a solo traveler. Michael was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, George Edward, and his best friend, William Austin McKee, Jr. , his parents, Bill and Mary Alice, and Grandparents,
John and Susan McKee and Harry and Nellie McAdams and many beloved Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing 2 daughters, Molly Elizabeth(Eric) Lauer, Rose Catherine McKee; Granddaughter, Lucy Magnolia Lauer; 2 Sisters, Mary Alice(Rick) Penwell, Nancy Sue McKee and Nephew, Austin Price McKee, Mother of his children, Maureen June McKee and special cousins, Carolyn Sandford and Lila Switzer.
A private celebration of Michael's life and legacy will be held in the coming weeks. The family thanks you for your love and prayers at this difficult time.
