Minister Naomi Canty

November 22, 1930 — July 11, 2024

Cincinnati, Ohio

Minister Naomi Canty was born November 22, 1930 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Odie B. Lewis, Sr. and Sophie McDonald – Lewis. She departed this life on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at the Covenant Village Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Odie B. and Sophie Lewis; a son Darryl Jerome Canty (died at birth); brothers, James A. Lewis, Albert Lewis, Edward L Lewis, Odie B. Lewis, Jr.; sisters, Myrtle Lewis Hurley, Alberta Lewis Burton; brothers-in-law, William T. Burton, Earlee Murry, James E. Hurley Sr.

She attended elementary and junior high school in West College Hill and later transferred to the North College Hill school system.

Young Naomi married Jeff Anderson, and from this union, her first son was born, Cornell. The union, however, was not sustained and some years later, Naomi married Andrew Paul Canty. Two sons were born Darryl Jerome Canty, who died after birth and Andre’ Lamont Canty.

Naomi continued to be faithful to God in her church The House of God, which is the Church of the Living God, under the leadership of the late Bishop James M. Early. She was dedicated and faithful, and received a call to the ministry. She was appointed Missionary by Bishop Early and later awarded the designation of Minister. Minister Canty used her gifts in the church teaching Sunday School Classes and for the community outreach, visiting the sick and shut-in at various hospitals and care facilities as well as private homes. She was a servant, not only in word, but indeed. She demonstrated LOVE! She will not be forgotten.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Elder Cornell Anderson (Amy), Andre’ L. Canty, two grandchildren (Nikki M. Anderson, Rashaan J. Anderson), two great-grandchildren, (Amadi Imani Anderson, Tra’Von Anderson), two great-great-grandchildren (Akairo Anderson, Tra’Von Anderson II); a sister, Erma Jean Murry (Indianapolis, Indiana), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted daughters, friends and well-wishers. May the life she lived speak for her.
