Osie Lee Casey was born on July 3, 1939 in Walls, Mississippi to Elizabeth and Noble Casey. He departed this earthly life on July 8, 2012 at 11:45 p.m. at Mercy Hospital (Fairfield). Osie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ernestine and Geneva; and two brothers, Jim and Jerome.
Osie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Revelation Baptist Church. He later joined Southern Baptist Church where he served in ministry as an usher. Osie faithfully attended church services until his health began to fail.
Osie graduated from Hughes High School in 1957 and later attended Southern Ohio College. Very soon after taking college courses, he proudly joined and served in the United States Army for three years. Osie then worked for the United States Postal Service. He retired from the BP Oil Company after working as a truck driver for many years.
Osie was united in holy matrimony to Rita Dubose in 1965. To this union three children were born, Troy, Genia and Tammy. Through the years he and Rita remained good friends.
Retirement was the beginning of living an active life. Osie was a member of several organizations. Since its inception 32 years ago, he was an active member (served as Vice President) of the Ach/ Hughes Black Alumni Association, Inc. and its scholarship committee. Osie faithfully looked forward to the scholarship banquets and parties. It was his mission to ensure that every minority student receive financial assistance while attending college. Osie was a member of the JVC social club where he and his very close friends, James and Vinson planned and hosted many events and trips. Osie was also a member of the
Elks-Queen City Lodge #1660 Lockland, Ohio (May 1988-2008).
Family and friends were Osie's most important jewels in life. When his children were young, he was a Cub Scout leader. He planned trips for children to attend camping and visit historic sites; attended weekly violin lessons with his grandchildren and he eventually learned to play the violin at the young age of 67. Osie traveled near and far to make sure that his family was doing fine. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at their monthly breakfast gatherings and weekly visits to the Lodge! There was absolutely NOTHING that Osie would not do for anyone that he came in contact with. As an organ and tissue donor, he was still giving all that he had to offer after he passed away. At his bedside was his bible and sermon notes about Christian Giving. Osie's notes referred to…Our attitude towards giving, obeying, thankfulness and that a generous person will prosper. His lifestyle showed his obedience!
Osie had a real zest for life and lived all of his days to the fullest. He enjoyed reading, gardening, playing cards, building things, traveling, sports, and working on his computer.
Osie leaves not to mourn his passing, but to cherish his memory: one son, Troy (Lisa); two daughters, K. Genia (Neal) Ferguson and Tammy; fiancée, Delilah Whiteside; two special daughters, Teri (Abdul) Aidara and Sandy Whiteside; seven grandchildren, Courtney, Troy Jr., Keturah, Jalen, C.J., Alexia, and Manny; four special grandchildren, Kristopher, Jassonlyn, Paige, and Ariel, two great grandchildren DJibril and Iyana; four sisters Naomi, Clara, Yvonne (Robert), and Alberta; one brother, Van (Sherri); sister-in-law, Alfreda; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, especially you! (Everyone was part of his family.)
