Pastor Emeritus Flave E. Hunter Jr., age 76 of Cincinnati passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2012. He was born in Arlington, Alabama the son of Arthur and Appolonia (Withers) Hunter Sr. He was a member of the New Christian Life Missionary Baptist Church. In September 1956 he was married to Mary Lou Hannon. Flave was a Minister for Beulah Baptist Church for many years, before becoming the Pastor of New Christian Life Missionary Baptist Church in 1989. He retired in 2008 due to illness. Flave was a devoted husband, father, and he lived his life according to God's word. Flave began singing at a very young age in a family group called "The Friendly Four", he was a member of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church male chorus, New Christian Life Missionary Baptist Church male chorus, and United Christian Brotherhood male chorus. He was also a member of the Guiding Star Lodge #79.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Hunter of Cincinnati; two daughters, Marilyn and her husband Marcel Berry of Cincinnati and Josephine and her husband Edward Gross of Richmond, Virginia; two sons, Gary Darnell Hunter and his wife Shurrie of Cincinnati and Al James Hunter of Cincinnati; one brother, Criss Hunter and his wife Annabelle of Birmingham, Alabama; four sisters, Queen Hunter of Long Island, New York, Ruth Cunningham of Birmingham, Alabama, Violet Carr of Birmingham, Alabama, and Selena Hunter of Atlanta, Georgia; one uncle, C.W. Withers of South Carolina; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arthur and James Hunter.
Funeral service will be held at the Greater Canaan Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Christopher Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Vine Street Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of service at 10:00 AM.
