Pearline Posey-Jones

March 4, 1925 — February 8, 2018

Pearline Posey Jones was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 4, 1925, to Robert and Annie Mae Lovette (Huff). She had one sister, Gloria Lovette who preceded her in death. Pearline accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of St. John A.M.E. Zion Church Cincinnati, Ohio for over 80 years. Pearline graduated from Woodward High in the Cincinnati Public School District. In 1943, she married Arthur R. Posey Sr. a military veteran of World War II. In 1958, after being inspired by a message from Reverend Dunn, Pastor of St. John A.M.E. Zion Church Cincinnati, she enrolled then graduated from Cincinnati Public School of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse when she was 6 months pregnant with her youngest child Johnathan as a testament that with God's help, nothing would stop her from achieving her goals. She continued in nursing for over 40 years with many years in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Mary's Hospital, Providence Hospital, and did Private Duty at the Jewish Hospital until retirement.

Pearline had a burning desire to move her children from the projects in the West End and prayed to God for guidance to move them to an environment that would allow them to thrive. She was the living embodiment of "trust God." She had to learn to put her faith and trust solely in God. She heard the voice of God say, "Use What You Got." She interpreted that as in addition to her night shift ICU nurse job at St. Mary's Hospital in the West End; she should start working a 2nd shift as a Private Duty Nurse. She worked 16 hours per day until she built her credit and cash flow since she had been a single parent with 6 children on welfare for many years. In 1966 she purchased her home on Glen Este Place and a new car and learned how to drive.

Pearline was the proud mother of Arthur Jr., Michael, Sheila, Stanley, Jacqueline, and Johnathan. In 1969, she married the love of her life, Albert R. Jones who held a 2nd Class State of Ohio Stationary Engineer's and was the building engineer at the Samuel Arch Junior High School where he also supervised the custodial staff. He helped her son Michael pass the State Exam after he had failed, and Michael later passed the 1st Class Stationary Engineer's Exam that led to him teaching stationary engineering at U. C.'s College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Pearline was an active member of the Parent Teacher Association; Order of the Eastern Star; St. John A.M.E. Zion Gospel Choir; and many more community service efforts throughout the state of Ohio. Pearline was an avid reader and continual learner. In 1992 at age 67, and walking on a cane, Pearline enrolled at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. She received the Jean Patrice Harrington Leadership Award for outstanding leadership on campus surpassing students in their 20's in a predominately white school, remained on the Dean's List, and graduated with honors (Cum Laude).

Pearline Posey Jones was a woman filled with spunk, courage, and grace. She never allowed circumstances to determine her outcome. Pearline applied many of the lessons learned from her grandmother Elvie Strozier as a guide of how to carry herself through life. She also learned sound money management from her father Robert Lovette with whom she was very close. She then took those lessons and poured them into the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grand-children. Most everyone has heard her say "Use what you got!" or "Be particular about yourself." She believed that God gave everyone gifts and talents and if you "use what you got," your gifts would make room for you.

Pearline Posey Jones departed this life on Thursday, February 8, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Arthur Posey Sr., Albert Jones; daughter, Sheila Posey; sister, Gloria Lovette.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Arthur Posey Jr., Dr. Michael J. (Dr. Monica) Posey, Stanley Posey, Jacqueline Hurst, Rev. Johnathan (Sandra) Posey; two nieces Beverly Lovette and Sondra Arrington; Nephew Pastor Rodney Posey, 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
