Phyllis Rochelle Kimmel (nee Karstetter) died January 2, 2018 at the age of 81 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Long-time resident of Lincoln Village and Hilliard in Central Ohio, she was born and raised in Lock Haven, PA.
Adored wife of the late Jim Kimmel, they shared 50 years of marriage focusing on their children and grandchildren and enjoying such varied interests as Ohio State women's basketball, big band jazz music, gourmet club, family travel and following the Steelers, the Buckeyes, and the Fighting Irish. Beloved mother of Jamie (Dan) Eifert, Julie (Bill) Hughes, and Brooks (Dana) Kimmel and dear grandmother of John and Mark Eifert, Griffin Hughes, Michelle (Joseph) Scaglione, James and Blaise Kimmel. Phyllis was predeceased by her loving parents, Bill and Alice Karstetter, and cherished sister, Connie English. She is survived by many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends – including the members of the many bridge clubs and euchre clubs she enjoyed over the years.
A natural people person, Phyllis was a devoted friend and genuinely cared about all those she encountered, particularly through her profession as a dental hygienist in the practice of the late Frank D. Queen, through Columbia Heights United Methodist Church, the Lincoln Village Women's Club, her Lock Haven High School and Temple University classmates, and later, the staff and residents of Brookdale Place in the Kenwood suburb of Cincinnati. Phyl had a wonderful sense of humor and positive outlook on life and remained sharp, engaged and caring throughout. She will be greatly missed and long remembered.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 13 at 11:30 am at Columbia Heights United Methodist Church, 775 Galloway Rd, Galloway, OH. Friends will be received beginning at 10:30 and a lunch will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Columbia Heights, PO Box 327, Galloway, OH, 43119.
