Robert James Betz, age 82, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, July 26th, 2023. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 7, 1940 to the late George P. and Estella L. Betz (nee Zoellner).
Around the age of 12, he started playing piano professionally at local establishments. Soon after, playing with the pit band when solo acts such as Dolly Parton would come into town to perform. He continued to perform throughout his life, entertaining not only guests and patrons professionally, but also his friends and family.
As a Veteran of the United States Army, he enlisted in 1958 and served overseas in Germany as a radio operator until 1961. Upon returning to civilian life, utilizing his music skills, he worked for Willis Music, Ray Lammers Music and The World Library of Sacred Music. Later in life, he worked at Beechwood Nursing Home, as well as Ohio Blueprint for several years until his retirement in his late 60's.
He continued to play piano on the side during his retirement and loved getting together with family and friends to play cards and various games. An avid walker, he enjoyed long walks throughout the city, as well as going for nature walks in local parks and other areas throughout the country. He also had a unique sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh throughout his life.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Kathryn Bohnenkamper (nee Betz); brother-in-law, Lloyd Bohnenkamper; brother, Walter Betz; sister-in-law, Edna Betz (nee Carmack); his former wife and friend, Corinne Betz (nee Gise); and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his daughters, Kristie Betz and Lori Betz, both of Georgia; his sons, Dennis (Diana) Betz of Ohio and David (Rebecca) Betz of Georgia; and his grandson, Oliver Betz.
Following cremation, visitation will be Friday, August 18, 2023 from 9:30 - 10:30 AM followed by Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Martins of Tours Church, 3720 St. Martins Place Road, Cheviot, OH 45211.
After the Mass, friends and family are welcome to join Robert's children at St. Johns Cemetery, 1065 Neeb Road, Delhi Township, OH 45233 for a small service at his final resting place.
