Robert C. Martin

August 24, 1938 — July 10, 2013

Robert was called to rest in peace July 10th, 2013. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Robert Charles Martin was born August 24th, 1938 in New Brighton, Pennsylvania to John A. and Alma Jean Martin. Robert was the fifth of ten children. He and his siblings were raised and nurtured in love and passed these traits to the generations that have followed.

Robert's primary education started in New Brighton, Pennsylvania and at the age of eighteen Robert entered the Armed Services and received an honorable discharge after his years of service. Robert then returned home and he was joined in matrimony to "Sweetie" Johnnie Mae of Cincinnati, Ohio. They were blessed with two sons, Robert Jr., Jeffrey, and three daughters, Cassandra, Lori, and Deborah. He was fondly known as "Bo-Bo" to many of his family members and "Grandpa" to all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His home was opened to his very large extended family.

Robert served as an usher at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He served faithfully until his health began to fail.

Robert retired from over thirty years of working at William Powell Valve Company. He then worked for the next nine years at Mercy Hospital working in several departments, the last being security. Robert also volunteered at the VA Medical Center after all his years of working. Robert always worked at least two jobs to make sure his family was taken care of. He instilled those work ethics in his children and grandchildren.

Robert spent thirty-six years as a Mason with Wesley Smith Lodge #107, where he was Past Master. He also was Past Patron of Wesley Smith Chapter #90. He was a member of King Solomon Consistory #20 where he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a Past High Priest of Prince White Chapter #1 of the Royal Arch Masons. Robert held many positions in organizations through Masons.

Robert has a host of family waiting to receive him in Heaven; his parents John & Alma Jean. I know he is getting the hugs and kisses only a mother can give; his granddaughter Tagan, who has a joyful smile that she always shared and is showing him the wonders of heaven; his brothers and sister, James "Jimmy", John "Buddy", Elwood "Red", Lila, and Phillip. They're starting to plan the reunion to make the welcome for the family to come; and a host of family that has gone on before him.

Robert was a true family man. He valued the job given to him as a Christian, husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He made sure his children knew their family and stayed in close contact with his siblings. Bo-Bo and Sweetie created their own little village that will truly miss him. His memory will carry on through them. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Johnnie Mae; children, Cassandra (Bobby) Feldhaus of Highland Heights, Kentucky, Robert Jr. (Judith) Martin of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jeffrey (Tatum) Martin of Indianapolis, Indiana, Lori (John) Hurt of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Deborah (James) Mays of Cincinnati, Ohio; seventeen grandchildren and twenty three great-grandchildren; brothers, George Martin of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, Clavell Martin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; sisters, Martha (Van) Mooney of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Mamie Martin of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and a host of other family members and dear friends.
