Robert P. Gettys, 78, passed away October 19, 2023 after a lengthy illness. He was a graduate of Boone County High School, Western Kentucky University, and Salmon P. Chase College of Law.
He was a naturally talented trial lawyer in both criminal and civil practice. His proudest accomplishment was singularly defending the only corporate defendant remaining at trial call to a successful defense verdict against the battery of lawyers representing plaintiffs in the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire case.
He is survived by four children, Joan (Drew) Howell, Ryan Gettys, Elizabeth Gettys, Kelly Gettys; six grandchildren, Camille Vires, John Wyatt Vires, Hudson Gettys, Chase Gettys, Arden Gettys, and Audrey Gettys; two brothers, his identical twin, Norb (Marilyn) Gettys, Patrick (Marilyn) Gettys; two sisters, Jane (Steve) Montgomery, Joyce (Mike) Wagner; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Emorillis Gettys, older brother, Paul, and granddaughter, Garon Vires.
