Roger “Darrell” Braden of Walton, KY passed away at his home on Thursday, May 16, 2024, while surrounded by his loving family. Darrell was born in Cincinnati, OH on August 27, 1946, to Homer and Ruby Braden (nee Duncan). The family moved, in short order, to Winfield TN, where Darrell spent his “growing up” years. He was a graduate of Oneida High School, and then spent two years in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Dianna, on May 17, 1969, and they were happily married for 55 years, raising their two boys in their home in Walton.
Darrell provided for his family as a professional driver for over 40 years and retired from the Teamsters in 2009. Retirement allowed Darrell to spend more time traveling with Dianna back and forth to visit their boys and grandchildren. Nothing brought him more pleasure than spending time with his family, although breaking clay pigeons down at the gun club came in a close second.
Darrell was a longtime member and deacon at Big Bone Baptist Church. He served Jesus in various ways over the years, including teaching Sunday School, but the ministry that brought the most joy to his heart was serving as a chaplain with the Truckers’ Christian Chapel Ministry. Providing a place for professional drivers to attend a church service while resting at a truck stop was near and dear to Darrell’s truck-driving heart.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Homer & Ruby Braden, and siblings Loreen Daugherty (sister) & Layton Braden (brother). Darrell is survived by his beloved wife, Dianna Marcum Braden, his two sons, Marcus (Deanna) and Keenan (Peggy) Braden, grandsons Mason & Andrew Braden, granddaughters Madison & Rylie Jo Braden, and siblings Dale Braden, Gayla Braden, Gwena Massengale, and Ramona Braden, and a host of other family members and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Big Bone Baptist Church, 11036 Big Bone Church Road, Union, Kentucky 41091. A celebration of life will begin at 4:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow at Richwood Presbyterian Cemetery, 1070 Richwood Road, Walton, Kentucky 41094.
