Roland Brian Monday, son of Aaron Monday and Abby (Foust) Hildebrandt, was born April 30, 1946 in Tennessee. At the age of 37, Roland heard the Savior’s call through the gospel at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Cincinnati, OH where he was given a second birth unto life eternal, adopted through the waters of Holy Baptism as a member of God’s family through the saving work of Jesus Christ alone, by faith alone, by grace alone, to the glory of God alone. Changed by grace, the Spirit nourished the faith he had created in Roland’s heart, raising him up as a witness to Christ all his days to his family and many others. Roland confessed Jesus and the certain hope of life to the very end.
We give thanks to the Lord God for the person of Roland Monday, married to Stephanie Irene (Hughes) Monday on October 31, 1970. He served and supported his wife and family primarily through being self-employed as owner of Factory Direct Remodeling. They shared all of their lives together for 54 years in marriage and especially celebrated Jesus as central to their marriage, their home, their work, and all things. God used Roland and Stephanie to impart the gospel to their sons and, with them, to a third and fourth generation of believers and to many others.
Our departed brother was not in good health for the last number of years of his life and especially over this last year. During these difficult days the Lord spoke to him repeatedly through his Word in daily meditations with his wife, everyday conversations with his family and friends, visitations by his pastors, and regularly at church in worship and Bible study in person and online. God regularly nourished Roland’s faith with his Holy Supper, serving as a foretaste of the wedding banquet of the Lamb above where Roland now resides. On Friday the 27th day of December in the year of our Lord 2024, the Savior, who does all things well, sent his mighty angels to escort his tired son to the place he had prepared for him so long ago through his own precious blood, innocent suffering and death on a cross, and triumphant resurrection. Through Jesus’ work alone death is now but a sleep from which Roland will awake. Soon, Jesus will come again and raise Roland and all who believe from their graves to an eternity with God and we who remain will be caught up all together in the sky. We pray all who are in Christ are encouraged by these words (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).
We give thanks to God for all the medical personnel whom God used to extend Roland’s life for as long as the Lord would allow him to remain for his family and loved ones. The medical staff at Christ hospital was especially so kind and caring in service to Roland to the very end. We give our utmost thanks to God for the ministries of Pastor Dan Koelpin, Pastor Tom Westra, and Pastor Alex Groth whom God used as faithful ministers of the gospel along with all God’s family at Beautiful Savior.
Preceding him in death were his parents Aaron and Abby, brothers David Carrol and Jim; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Joan Hughes, and brother-in-law Jeff Hughes. He is survived by his sister Barb Crum, sister-in-law Teresa Monday, sister Patty Haynes, brother Rick (Laurie) Hildebrandt, brother Billy Joe; sister-in-law Charmaine Hughes, sister-in-law Kim (Alfred Guidi), brother-in-law Shane (Linda) Hughes; and many nieces and nephews.
We, his immediate family, who remain behind - his wife Stephanie; children, Roland “Shane” (Rachelle), Jason, William (Lori), and Elizabeth (Yetter) Monday; grandchildren, Trinity (Anuj Borsada), Christian (Maddie), Jonah, Jessica, Erica (Luke Schlomer), Charissa, Abby, Isabel, Luther, Zoe, and Aaron; great-grandchildren, Silas, Nevaeh (Borsada) - cling through faith to Jesus Christ, our only Savior, and await that great day when we, together with our brother gone on ahead, will rise from our graves and follow the Savior out of this life into a better one.
To him who loved us and washed us from our sins in his blood, be honor, glory, and power now and forever! Amen.
