Rose G. Andrews

November 10, 1931 — December 23, 2020

Rose Andrews, was born November 10th, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Otis Gaston and Carrie Merritt (nee Gray)

Rose was a devoted wife and mother. Family was everything to her. She served as the matriarch to her family. She was an aunt, a sister, and a mentor to many. She was a great role model of how to be a mother and a wife. She is what you would call a real HOMEMAKER. She loved to entertain in her home. She loved cooking and her specialty was her potato salad. Christmas was one of her favorite times of the year to celebrate with her family. It's ironic that is when she left us. But we will always celebrate her even more now every year.

On July 22, 1952, she was united in marriage to Otis Andrews, Sr. From a 68 year marriage came three children: Valerie Jean Gilbert, the late Otis "Kip" William Andrews II, and Karen "Kathy" Harris.

Rose is survived by her loving daughters, Valerie and Karen; adopted children, Steve Combs and Carolyn Smith; four grandchildren, Christopher "Christophee" Edward Bell, Brandy Rose Harris, Brian Andrew Harris, and Siobhan Vante' Andrews; eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carrie Gray Merritt and Otis Gaston, the love of her life Otis William Andrews Sr., her sister Lela (LeeLee) Carrington, her son Otis William Andrews ll, and grandson, Otis Cordero Andrews.

Rose was a devoted Catholic. She was a member of Saint Saviors Catholic Church for many, many years. She volunteered for her church, especially for the annual fair that St. Saviors had, and would help anyone that needed it. Even after she retired from the Federal Government, she still helped out with the elderly taking them to their doctor appointments or to get groceries, or just sitting with them to keep them company. She loved fishing, playing bingo, cards, and the casino. She especially loved to dance. But the biggest thing we take from her is she would fight for her children no matter what.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Rose to the Alzheimer's Association.

Due to Covid-19, the visitation and service for Rose will be invitation only at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, located at 7830 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45231. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
