It is with grief and sorrow we must announce that beloved friend, son and brother, James Ryan Thomas (Ryan) passed away Tuesday, August 17th at the age of 38. That giant heart of his decided it was done beating. It was too soon. Our solace is that he is with God now.
Moments after it happened, his sister Tara, not knowing he was gone, heard his voice in her head say, "It's OK, I'm happy."
Ryan was born in Cincinnati and grew up there until he was 16, then moved to Texas and spent over a decade in the Austin area (Liberty Hill) before moving back to Ohio. He grew up with a passion for sports and was a talented athlete. He was a fun loving guy that enjoyed time with his family and friends. He had a distinctive voice with a sultry tone of old wisdom to it. He knew anything and everything about sports and could make any game on TV more interesting with his fact filled commentaries. His natural acute sense of balance and amazing hand/foot-eye coordination made him a natural at any contest of skill, even if it was his first time. Ryan's greatest joy in life was being an uncle to his niece, and nephews. He had a great faith in God and heeded the commandment Jesus made to love others.
Ryan will be missed by many.
Ryan is survived by his mother, Tammy Giffin; step-father, Dave Giffin; father, Jackson Thomas; five brothers and sisters, Tara (Richard) Marshall, Shannon (Kevin) Walker, Celeste (Jeremy) Schmid, Max and Hunter Giffin; several aunts and uncles; nephews, Michael, Matthew, Jacob, Andrew; niece, Samantha; and many cousins.
Family and friends may gather on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, 7830 Hamilton Avenue, Mt. Healthy, from 3:00 to 4:00PM. The funeral service for Ryan will begin at the funeral home at 4:00PM with Apostle Garland Thomas.
Thank you to Ryan's cousin, Adam for putting together a GoFundme and thank you to everyone who contributed so generously. We love and appreciate all of you.
