Sasha Hellas Thompson, age 18, passed away Monday, January 23, 2023. She was born September 10, 2004.
Sasha attended Simon Kenton High School 9th-12th grade. She graduated and received her diploma from Campbell Co. High School May of 2022.
She was born in Ohio, but her home was Northern Kentucky. She is survived in death by a diverse blended family of siblings, guardians, friends, and advocates. Sasha celebrated every moment shared together regardless of whether it was weeks, months, or years. There are dozens of hearts she touched during her short time with us. The deepest of her love shined brightest for D.G.M, X.M.C and the fire breathing baby dragon's N.Z.C (Erlanger) and Sunabouza. Her older soul sister Leticia Valadez (Louisville), brother Jordan Hill (Louisville), Evan Lewis, Isiaha Lewis, and Christian Lewis (Independence), Raelinn Ketron, Gwenn Ketron, Finley Ketron, Patrick Newell, Natalie Newell, Joseph Newell, Elizabeth Newell (Owenton).
To honor Sasha, I can't name just one mother because she was blessed by many women who would be honored to claim they created such transcendence in human form. Rachelle Ketron, Marsha Newell (Owenton), Chris Hensley (Independence), Shannon Kirby (Springfield), Dr. Lee Ann Conard and staff at Cincinnati Children's Adolescent and Transitional medicine, the entire staff of Necco (Florence) all loved, admired, and advocated for her continued success. Also survived by her biological mother, Anna Powell and biological siblings, Fancy Thompson, Toni Rose, Anastasia Rose, Maverick Thompson and Franklin Bunch.
Sasha would say she was created from molten lava that exploded from the highest points land can touch the sky. When it finally meets the cold, salty water. She is the steam, punk. Exotic, macabre, curious, brilliantly talented artist, quick witted and full of life and knowledge. She did not fear anything, except corn. Sasha never met a stranger and always had a perfectly timed, bad dad joke to break the ice. She was insightful and possessed a compassionate courageousness typically reserved for older souls. She was unbothered by the opinions of others. Except when those opinions were oppressive to the causes and people she loved. She had a ferocious intolerance of bigotry. A fierce fighter for social justice, racial equality and protecting the rights and dignity of the LGBTQIA+ community. A vagabond, supertramp, dumpster diving, promenade busking, warrior for the underdog that loved running in the rain and ear-piercing death metal, anime, cosplay, 5 lb. books, exquisite cuisine and fire forging her own path less travelled.
In loving memory of Sasha, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Transform Cincy at www.transformcincy.org. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 1pm - 3pm with a service to follow at Newcomer Funerals, Cremations & Receptions - Northern Kentucky Chapel, 4350 Dixie Hwy., Erlanger, KY 41018.
