Smith Collins, age 67 of Cincinnati passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015. He was born on July 16, 1948 in Cincinnati the son of the late Jimmie and Aldora (Beaton) Collins. Smith was a member of the Greater Cannon Baptist Church for over 40 years, where he served as President of the Choir, President of the Six Choir Union, Male Chorus, and a member of the Gospel Allstar Chorus, where he always felt closer to God. He was President of the North Fairmount Community Council in the early 1990's, coach for the North Fairmount A's. Smith was employed with, William Powell Valve, Aladdin Pool Company, General Casting, and he retired from Reliable Casting.
Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Collins; his parents; former spouses, Hattie Sprawl, Frances Collins, Helen Peterson Collins, and Annette Black; one daughter, Sharon Peterson; and two sons, Maurice Peterson and Michael Barber; one sister, Alice Cameron; five brothers, James, Jimmie Red, Thomas, Leroy and Charles Collins; one brother-in-law, Ulysses Green. He is survived by his fiancé, Rennetta James; eight daughters, Rosemary, Lisa, Alice (James), Patricia (Keith), Shirley (Brian) , Felicia (Harvus), Sherita (Chet), Melissa and Monia; seven sons, Smith Jr. (Stevette), Jimmie (Tracy), Mark (Stephanie), Mike (Lacretia), Johnny (Kim), Smittie (Michelle), Alvin (Maya); six sisters, Corrine Threkeld, Ada Barnes, Annie (David), Aldora (Charles), Lillie (George), Marilyn (Bill); one brother, Frank (Debbie); mother-in-law, Clara Greene; a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his closest grandchildren, Fermonta and Dominique; close friends, Arthur Harrison and Deacon Chandler; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at the Greater Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, 7181 Reading Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45237 on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am.
