Vivian D. Powell

February 11, 1934 — September 23, 2012

"A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth". Ecclesiastes 7:1

Vivian was born February 11, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the holy union of the late Alonzo Smith, Sr. and Hattie Smith. To this union two children were born, Vivian the eldest. She leaves to cherish her memory: her only brother, Alonzo Smith Jr. She began the journey to God's Kingdom early in the morning on September 22, 2012.

Vivian received her education from the Cincinnati Public School system. She received her high school diploma from Bloom High School on Baymiller Street in Over-The –Rhine. After graduation, she continued on to Poro School of Hair and Beauty Culture. Shortly thereafter, she received a position at the United States Post Office. After receiving numerous achievements and certificates of appreciation and perfect job evaluations, she was promoted to Dock Supervisor. While working to exceed the standards of her job, she found time to bowl on the Women's Postal Bowling Team. This team went all the way to the Federal Employee National Bowling Tournament in 1981. Vivian also was a member of the Post Office Retirement Club upon her retirement. She retired from USPA in 1998.

Vivian dedicated her life to her family. There was nothing she wouldn't do. If you called, she came. Vivian gave the world to her own three children, eldest son, Ronald, only daughter; Phyllis (preceded her in death). She leaves her baby Tyrone to cherish her memory.

Vivian was a friend to many and a mother to all. Vivian had so much love to give; she opened her door to LoTonya "Pooh", her great niece and raised her as her own. A mother's love who Vivian's will never be forgotten. Knowing that family is your foundation, she actively participated in all family events and reunions.

The meaning of Vivian is "Full of Life" and that is what she ______. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. From traveling around the world, and back again, to being an ace's night card club member, to bowling at Seymour Lanes in the league, to participating in all reunions, to being on the casino boat, to being the Vice President of the Stone-ltis at the time of her passing, Vivian lived life to the FULLEST!.

Among all these things, Vivian had her foot planted in the Lord. She was baptized January 4, 1987 by Pastor Briggs of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was on the Usher Board and she was an active member. Later, she moved up under the leadership of Pasto Ivey at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Roselawn. On January 27, 2001, she joined Beulah Baptist and December 8, 2002 she completed her new member's class. She was a busy member too. She sang in the Fanetta Ross Senior Choir and was a member of the Senior Citizens Ministry. She knew the work of the Lord had to be done.

On July 31, 2007, Vivian wed Vona Mace Powell, her knight and shining armor. She lived her golden years happy. Vona her king and she his queen. With this union, she gained a stepson, Reginald Mayfield.

At the end of life's journey, God awaits. Now that you have completed your course, ran your race, kept the faith, God's arms are open saying, "Welcome Home my child, welcome home!"

Vivian you have earned your wings. She leaves her footprints to follow: husband Vona Powell; sons Tyrone Townsend and Reginald Mayfield; four grandchildren, Michael Sr., Djwana, Eboni, Robert; eight great-grandchildren, Djuana, Chardonae, Claude, Shamaiye, Maiyer, Xavier, Michelle, Michael Jr., one brother, Alonzo Jr., one favorite aunt, Bertha Davis; two nieces, Gloria and Sabrina; one nephew, Gregory; one adopted son, Jerome; six great-nieces, Tracey, Felicia, Vivian, Latonya, Gwendolyn, Krystal; two great-nephews, Gamel and Lamar; five special cousins, Linda, Charlotta, Lolita, Aquil, John; three best friends, Vada, Hicks and Deborah; and a host of family and friends
