Long, Walter D. age 80, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 27, 1943 to Columbus and Redus Long (nee Saylor).
Walter was preceded in death by his father, Columbus Long, mother, Redus Saylor Long; brothers Bob Long, Jack Long and Michael Todd; sisters Sonja Erickson, Sherry Robbins and Joyce Long; and grandson Lance Corporal Charles New.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Paula Long (Jones); sons Brian E. (Bridget Lamborn) Long, Russell D. (Stacey) Long, Johnny D. (Falon Cole) Long; daughter, Angela J. Long; brothers Lanny (Dawn) Marsh and Rodney (Chris) Marsh; sister, Judy (Warren) Miles; grandchildren Robert (Heather) Boomershine, Nicholas (Erica) Long, Kaiden Long, Cole Long, Shane Long, Elise Long, Darrin Long, Jaxon Long, Kyan Long, Gage Cole, Jayden Cole; great grandchildren Christopher Boomershine, Sophia Boomershine, Destiny Boomershine, Charleigh Boomershine, Cayden Boomershine, Lydia Long, Ava Long; and many beloved nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Walter spent many years as a Mason at Western Hills-Cheviot Lodge and was proud to have served as Master of the Lodge. He was happiest when traveling around the United States with Paula either on a cruise ship or in their camper. They enjoyed snow birding in Florida where they would play shuffleboard during the day and bingo in the evenings with friends. When not traveling, Walt enjoyed working puzzles with Paula, hunting, metal detecting, gardening, and reading. Many cherished moments were those spent bass fishing, whether with his son and grandsons or friends, as he loved being outside and close to nature.
He was known for his unwavering dedication to helping others. Whether through his acts of kindness, his words of wisdom, or his comforting presence, he brought light into the lives of those around him. His love knew no bounds, and his devotion to his family was unwavering. In his final moments, Walter found solace in the embrace of his faith, and he passed peacefully from this world to the next. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
