Walter B. Rainey, age 89, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023. He was born in Temple, Georgia on January 9, 1934 to the late Roy and Sarah Rainey (nee Reese).
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Rainey; his siblings, Troy Rainey, Leroy Rainey, Leon Rainey, Mary Barksdale, Edna Parker, Veomia Harris, and Pequlia Rainey.
He is survived by his two sisters, Betty Williams and Virginia Summers; special friend, Lucille Cook; also by his children, Brad (wife Barbara) Buchanan, Gwendolyn Y. (husband Tony) Hampton, Rachel Suttles, Rhonda (husband Edward) Jackson, Gregory (wife Kimberly) Jones, Gregory (wife Denise) Cook, April Leigh and Terrance Buchanan; grandchildren, Chiqita Terry, Shaquita Fisher, Lanisha Youngblood, Sierra Buchanan, Breauhna Buchanan, Jordan Buchanan, Tiffany Buchanan, Jamey Jones, Kris Jones, Kara Campbell, Cameron Jackson and Amber Jackson; nieces and nephews, Leon Rainey, Jr., Ronnie Harris, Ricky Harris, Jessie Parker, Annette Williams, Terry Summers, Sharon Summers, Felicia Williams, Sheila Summers, Jeanine Williams, Lynda Williams, Tina Williams, Dihann Summers, Tony Williams, Victor Summers, Michael Summers and Jeffery Summers; and a host of other great nieces, great nephews, family and friends.
Walter was a veteran of the United States Air Force, 1951 to 1955. He retired from the University of Cincinnati Hospital in 1985. He was an avid sports fan and was a Knothole baseball umpire. Walter liked playing sports, including softball, bowling, tennis, and he also participated in the Senior Olympics. He was a great cook. Also, he helped foster kids. And, last but not least, he had a wonderful spirit and was a faithful man of God. He was a wonderful Dad, Uncle and Grandfather to many.
Funeral Ceremony will be 11:00 am Thursday, August 31, 2023 with a visitation from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - West Side Chapel, 3300 Parkcrest Lane, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211.
A repass will be held following the burial service at Walnut Hills Cemetery at Bond Hill Recreation Center, 1501 Elizabeth Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45237.
