Walter Stanley Wyrostek, Jr., a distinguished electrical engineer, devoted father, and passionate animal lover, passed away peacefully on September 15 2024, in Cold Spring, Kentucky. He was born on June 1, 1931, in Warren, Rhode Island, to Walter and Anna Wyrostek (nee Bartoschevitz).

A proud graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso, Walter had an illustrious career that showcased his skills and dedication. He worked at RCA in Syracuse, New York, where he contributed to advancements in submarine technology. His career continued to flourish at General Electric, but it was during his time on the Apollo Project in the space division that he truly made his mark, later transferring to Houston, Texas, to work with NASA from 1968 to 1973. Walter retired from the Bulk Mail Center in Sharonville, Ohio, in 1994, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and commitment to his field.

Walter's military service began when he was drafted into the Army in 1950, serving honorably during the Korean War. His experiences during this time shaped his character and instilled a profound sense of duty and resilience.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Walter was a devoted father to his children, Jean McCardle, Janet Stanley and Jim Wyrostek. He took immense pride in his grandchildren, Jeremy (Grace) McCardle, Michael (Brittany) McCardle, and Julian (Evelyn) Stanley. Walter was also a proud great-grandfather to Aurum, Alex, Marlee, Hannah, Haven Rain, Shepherd, Magnolia, and Mira, and his love for family was evident in everything he did.

Walter was also known for his love of horses and all animals. He, along with his late wife Louise, made significant contributions to the Boone County Animal Shelter, reflecting their shared compassion for creatures great and small.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Wyrostek; mother, Anna Wyrostek (nee Bartoschevitz); wife, Louise Wyrostek (nee Roalf); son, Jim Wyrostek; and brother, Stanley Wyrostek.

Walter leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends in Rhode Island, all of whom will remember him for his kind spirit and generosity. His legacy will endure through the many lives he touched and the fond memories shared by those who loved him.

A graveside committal service will be held Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 3pm at Sand Run Cemetery in Hebron, Kentucky.
